Tempest Prognosticator
By Andrew Mowbray
Located at the Cook-Bryant Saltworks site
Join the Provincetown Public Art Foundation and the Bryant Family in celebrating the creation of a rotating public art site dedicated to installations that creatively explore wind power. Located on the former site of the Bryant Salt Works, the project honors George Bryant—Provincetown historian and lifelong advocate for pre-industrial craftsmanship—who worked to preserve the legacy of the town’s historic wind-powered salt production.
The inaugural installation features Andrew Mowbray’s Wind Driven Drawing Machine, a kinetic sculpture that generates drawings through the force and direction of the wind. Mowbray, whose work is held in the collections of the MFA and ICA, brings a poetic blend of form and function to this windswept site.
This piece connects Provincetown’s history to its future—highlighting the elemental role of wind in shaping both the environment and the town’s creative spirit.
